Health and Safety Coordinator

Role and Responsibilities

Role:

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for educating, implementing, and enforcing the DELTRO Health and Safety Program, Policies and Procedures as well as any government regulations that apply to the company. Constant monitoring and communication with the workers is required in order understand the dangers they face and what can be done to minimize or eliminate the hazards that are associated with the job. This is done through site visits, inspections, auditing, and tracking worker certifications and licenses to make sure they are qualified and competent to perform the work that is expected of them.

Responsibilities:

  • File and track employee training and certifications
  • Schedule workers for required training programs
  • Research beneficial training programs for all employees
  • Maintain Training Matrix
  • Understand the Deltro Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Understand Government laws and regulations pertaining to the construction industry
  • Create and update auditing forms for Jobsite safety paperwork
  • Audit weekly safety submittals from each jobsite
  • Track and record safety statistics
  • Conduct monthly jobsite inspections
  • Complete accident investigation should one occur
  • Submit worker injury report forms
  • Create site safety bulletin boards for each jobsite
  • Ensure required documents are on site
  • Assist field staff with completing JHA’s and Safe Work Procedures
  • Conduct employee orientation
  • Coordinate site inspections and training with third party safety company
  • Create the agenda for quarterly Joint Health and Safety Meetings
  • Schedule and run the quarterly Joint Health and Safety Meetings
  • Ensure first aid kits have the required equipment for jobsites and office
  • Ensure fire extinguishers are in required locations and have completed the monthly and annual inspections
  • Maintain and improve Deltro’s WSIB Safe Group Health and Safety Program requirements
  • Achieve and maintain the Deltro COR Certification
  • Assist employees with any questions or concerns they may have regarding Health and Safety
  • Schedule external (Cobalt) safety inspections
  • Monitor active WSIB cases and provide proper documentation when required.

 

Deltro Health & Safety Coordinator Requirements

 

  • Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, or similar
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in similar role
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation in the Construction industry
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to influence others to follow safety rules and regulations
  • Patient and calm
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong emergency response skills
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must possess a vehicle and valid driver’s license to travel between the office and sites
  • Must possess CPR/First Aid Certification
